I am writing to share my support of Delaware House Bill 125 (HB 125), which aims to expand access to free school meals for all public school students.
Access to regular meals plays a crucial role in promoting academic performance in children, providing essential nutrients that support cognitive function, improve concentration, and provide energy to engage in classroom activities. Furthermore, students who are not hungry are more likely to attend school regularly and exhibit fewer behavioral problems, keeping the school day running more smoothly for students and teachers.
In a society where the federal government is cancelling 900,000 meals for Delawareans in need and cutting funding for programs such as the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement, it is absolutely critical that the state government pass measures like HB 125 to ensure that Delaware’s children do not go hungry.
