I am writing to express my outrage at the United State’s recent attacks on fishing boats off Venezuela, as well as at this Republican administration’s closing Venezuelan airspace, signaling possible attacks on the Venezuelan mainland.
The orders given for these attacks violate U.S. and international law. They are reminiscent of the Gulf of Tonkin incident, a pretext used to invade Viet Nam.
Is the United States truly about to launch a regime-change war against Venezuela with:
-No casus belli?
-No Congressional authorization?
-No support from our allies or other countries?
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela?
-No plans for any sort of stabilization or containment of the aftermath?
America has seen what happens when administrations use manufactured threats to justify military action. Congress cannot allow this conflict—based on shifting stories and no evidence—to slide into a wider war or a resource-driven intervention.
Did we learn nothing in Iraq and Afghanistan?
My wife and I strongly urge you use your congressional powers to end these deadly attacks on Venezuelan civilians, and to end any plans for wider mainland attacks on Venezuela.
