Ohio governor Dewine
To: Gov. Newsom
From: A constituent in Westlake Village, CA
November 19
The proposed legislation that would require transgender students in Ohio to use restrooms based on their assigned gender at birth is discriminatory and harmful. This bill promotes unfounded concerns about the safety of cisgender students while disregarding the real dangers faced by transgender youth. Laws like this enable discrimination, stigmatization, and potential violence against an already vulnerable group. Instead of creating policies that marginalize transgender individuals, we should be promoting their inclusion, acceptance, and right to access facilities aligned with their gender identity - a stance backed by major medical organizations. Forcing trans students to use restrooms contradictory to their identity puts them at risk of harassment, bullying, and compromising their mental health. We must prioritize the wellbeing, dignity, and equal treatment of all students, including those who are transgender. Discrimination has no place in our schools or society. I urge you to reject this discriminatory legislation and instead work towards creating an environment of understanding, respect, and protection for all Ohio youth, regardless of gender identity.
