Please Oppose the Proposal Removing Nursing as a Professional Degree

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. DeGette

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

November 22

I’m deeply concerned about the proposal to remove nursing from the list of professional degrees. This change is dangerous and would have a real impact on patient care and health outcomes in our country. Nursing is a science-based, highly skilled profession that requires rigorous education, clinical training, and ongoing competency. Nurses make complex decisions every day, manage critical situations, and play a central role in keeping patients safe. Removing its status as a professional degree diminishes the work we do and threatens the future of the nursing workforce at a time when shortages are already severe. This also feels like a step backward for a profession largely practiced by women. Nurses carried this country through the pandemic and continue to hold the healthcare system together. We deserve recognition, not de-professionalization. I urge you to strongly oppose this proposal and stand with the nurses who care for our communities every day. Thank you for your attention to this issue.
