As a queer cis woman with beloved trans friends, I am gravely concerned about the discrimination and dangers they face. The recent presidential campaign promoted misleading anti-trans rhetoric that has fostered a hostile environment and potential for increased violence against this vulnerable community. Policies being floated, such as banning trans youth from participating in sports or denying access to gender-affirming healthcare, would be devastating setbacks that compromise basic rights and dignity. I urge you to protect existing trans rights and champion expanding them further through ethical, evidence-based policies. Stand firmly against any attempts to marginalize or discriminate against transgender Americans, who make up a vital part of our society. We need true equality, inclusion and respect for all.
