Hakeem Jeffries needs to be removed from Democratic leadership. His decision to vote against the Massie amendment cutting U.S. aid to Israel — and his call for a "new security arrangement" to maintain Israel's military edge — puts him squarely at odds with the Democratic base and, frankly, with basic human decency. This isn't a fringe position. Dozens of House Democrats are expected to vote for the amendment. Jeffries is out of step with his own caucus.
Democratic leadership should reflect Democratic voters, not shield a foreign policy that a growing majority of Americans oppose. Jeffries is functioning as a brake on accountability, not a voice for the people who put Democrats in office. The party cannot afford a minority leader who sides with the establishment over the base on one of the defining moral issues of this moment. Push for new leadership that actually represents where Democrats stand.
