I am writing to request your support for the termination of all existing 287(g) agreements between US Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Virginia state law enforcement agencies. These agreements allow state officers such as the State Police and Wildlife Resource Officers to perform duties outside their mission and may exceed their authority or conflict with Virginia’s state laws and constitution. Contracts with ICE are not only a misuse of time and resources but they also open state agencies up to significant liability, for which Virginia taxpayers will ultimately pay. Please end this now.
