I am writing out of deep concern for the direction of our country and the growing disregard for truth, accountability, and democratic norms from some of our political leaders — particularly former President Donald Trump and those who enable his conduct. Over the past months, we’ve witnessed a troubling pattern of behavior that undermines faith in our institutions and erodes the standards of leadership Americans should expect. These include: Disregard for the rule of law — openly attacking judges, juries, and the justice system when facing legal accountability. Spreading false and inflammatory claims about elections and opponents, which fuels division and distrust in democracy. Encouraging hostility toward public servants, journalists, and even members of Congress who disagree with him. Using campaign platforms and fundraising efforts to personally profit or mislead supporters. Normalizing personal attacks and threats that endanger public discourse and public safety. Whether or not these actions meet the legal definition of a crime, they represent an ongoing assault on the principles that keep our democracy strong — honesty, respect for the Constitution, and equal justice under law. Congress cannot stand by while such behavior becomes normalized. I urge you to: Support stronger ethics and transparency standards for all federal officials and candidates. Publicly defend the independence of the courts and the rule of law from political intimidation. Uphold and protect the integrity of future elections through bipartisan safeguards and truth-based communication. Speak out — loudly and clearly — that no person, regardless of status or office, is above accountability. The stakes for our democracy could not be higher. Silence and complacency are complicity. I’m asking you, as my elected representative, to act with urgency and courage to defend our nation’s values before more damage is done. Thank you for your attention and your continued service.
