Reject policies eroding civil liberties, uphold human rights.

To: Rep. Panetta, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

The context raises grave concerns about the potential transformation of the United States into an authoritarian police state under the guise of securing borders and public safety. The proposed measures, such as bolstering immigration enforcement, expanding private prisons, deputizing mercenary border patrols, and increasing surveillance capabilities, represent a disturbing erosion of civil liberties and human rights. These draconian policies disproportionately target marginalized communities, including immigrants, racial minorities, and political dissidents, while enriching private corporations at the expense of the populace. Such actions undermine the core principles of a free and democratic society, perpetuating a climate of fear, division, and oppression. Instead of investing billions in militarization and repression, resources should be redirected towards addressing the root causes of migration, promoting social welfare, and upholding human rights for all individuals regardless of their immigration status. The request is clear: these concerning developments must be resisted, and the nation's values of liberty, equality, and justice for all must be upheld. A shift towards a police state not only violates fundamental human rights but also erodes the foundations of a free and open society. It is crucial to advocate for policies that prioritize human dignity, due process, and the protection of civil liberties for all individuals, citizens and non-citizens alike.
