I am writing to express deep concern about the direction your party has taken on core democratic freedoms. You cannot claim to defend liberty while supporting policies that restrict book access, limit political expression, suppress public records like the Epstein files, and then entertain the idea of broadcasting an execution. These choices undermine the very principles you say you stand for.
And the silence is just as troubling. Too many elected officials bend the knee out of fear of retaliation, staying quiet while abuses of power go unchecked. That silence becomes complicity.
A clear example is Representative Glenn Grothman’s recent interview with candidate Brad Smith — the one circulated on Facebook — where Grothman tried to brush off rising prices and gas costs as if families aren’t feeling the strain every day. Instead of acknowledging the real economic pressure people in Wisconsin are facing, he minimized it. That kind of dismissiveness, combined with refusal to confront lawlessness in the current administration, shows exactly how far some officials will go to avoid accountability.
Government should protect rights, uphold transparency, and defend the rule of law. It should not curate which voices are allowed, which truths the public may see, or which abuses go unchecked.
I am asking you to reconsider the path your party is taking. The public deserves leaders who defend free expression, safeguard access to information, and stand up against wrongdoing — not those who remain silent out of fear.
