As a constituent and proud female voter, the proposed SAVE Act poses a serious threat to voting rights, particularly for married women in both political parties and marginalized communities. This legislation would impose stricter voter ID requirements that create additional barriers for married women who have changed their names, limit mail-in and early voting options that accommodate work and family obligations, and enable more aggressive voter roll purges that remove women from voter rolls due to name changes. These measures disproportionately disenfranchise married women across the political spectrum, as well as people of color, the elderly, and those with disabilities – groups that have historically faced obstacles in exercising their constitutional right to vote. Protecting the integrity of our elections is crucial, but the SAVE Act does the opposite by erecting unnecessary barriers that make it harder for millions of eligible American women and other citizens to participate in the democratic process. We must reject this harmful SAVE Act and instead work towards expanding access to the ballot box for all citizens.
