An Open Letter

To: Rep. Bell, Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A constituent in Saint Ann, MO

January 5

The president has taken actions that amount to acts of war without a declaration of war or authorization from Congress. This violates the Constitution and undermines Congress’s exclusive authority to declare war. This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a sustained pattern throughout Trump’s term of ignoring constitutional limits and expanding executive power through force while Congress remains silent or inactive. These reckless actions put Americans at risk, from regional destabilization and global escalation to economic fallout and the possibility of another unauthorized conflict. I want to be very clear: this issue is being discussed, tracked, and remembered by organized voters. Communities across the country are paying attention to who in Congress defends the Constitution and who allows it to be violated. Members who fail to act should not expect votes, volunteer support, or public backing during reelection campaigns. Congress was elected to act as a check on executive overreach. If that does not happen, voters will act collectively through organizing, public accountability, and at the ballot box.
