Vote no on H.R. 4371. This bill doesn't protect children — it subjects them to invasive body searches, prolonged detention, and separation from family members already living here legally. The ACLU has called it exactly what it is: a cruel expansion of mass detention dressed up as child welfare legislation. Children suffer serious psychological harm in detention. That is not a side effect — it is the outcome.
The conditions at facilities like Camp East Montana at Fort Bliss make this even more urgent. Human rights investigators documented beatings, sexual abuse, medical neglect, and coercive threats against detained people — including a teenager beaten so severely he lost consciousness and had a tooth broken. This facility violated over 60 federal detention standards in its first 50 days. Sending more children into this system is unconscionable.
Dozens of your colleagues who have supported tough immigration measures still rejected this bill. That should tell you something. I expect you to do the same. Vote no on H.R. 4371.
