Vote No on the $1 Billion White House Security Funding in the Immigration Bill

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. McClintock, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

May 5

Vote no on the $1 billion White House security allocation in the Senate immigration enforcement bill. The Trump administration promised taxpayers would not pay a penny for rebuilding the East Wing that he never should have destroyed in the first place. This funding package breaks that promise. Secret Service, ICE, CBP, and all of DHS received more than enough funding last year to pay for anything needed at the White House or anywhere else. The administration claims this ballroom will be funded by private donors and corporations like Meta, Apple, and Amazon. If that's true, those same donors can pay for the security upgrades too. Senator Grassley's bill explicitly allocates funds for security features related to the East Wing Modernization Project, which is just another name for Trump's $400 million ballroom. No matter how Republicans spin it, this is taxpayer money subsidizing a vanity project. Americans are dealing with rising costs for gas, food, housing, and health care. We don't need to spend $1 billion on security for a ballroom that shouldn't exist. Trump destroyed the East Wing. He can rebuild it without our money.
