California is one of only three states that still has no minimum age for marriage when parental consent and court approval are obtained.
Child marriage is an unfortunate way for adults to be legally considered innocent of Child Rape & Child Sexual Assault—predators marry their victims too often. How can we allow that to happen in 2026? We cannot! It’s time to end that loophole.
I support AB 1267, a bipartisan bill to finally end child marriage in California by establishing 18 as the minimum legal age for marriage.
The contradiction in current law is hard to ignore. A minor can legally get married, but must be 18 to file for divorce on their own!
Children deserve to be protected, not placed into lifelong legal commitments before they become adults. It's time for California to close this loophole and end child marriage once and for all.
Please stand with survivors and victims across the state. This is a law that most Californians think is already a law!
