An Open Letter

To: Rep. Smith, Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A constituent in Festus, MO

November 12

The idea that eight senators, Josh Hawley included, should have standing to sue the Federal Government because during the course of an investigation into the President of the United States inciting an insurrection, call logs (not actual recorded calls) of the people he spoke with before, during, and after the Capitol was breached were accessed. This all feels like an attempt to do the following: - Distract from the legitimate concerns of the case - Distract from President Trump and his Senate allies' actions before, during, and after a crime committed at our Capitol - Distract from the Epstein case, which isn’t going away - A deliberate cash grab to be paid to FODs (Friends of Don) This cannot be allowed to happen. It was a miscarriage of justice that Trump was acquitted in the Senate by his own party, including these same folks, and the American people were told to basically "let the courts handle it. " The American people right now are paying for multimillion dollar White House renovations, 72 golf trips (so far in his 10 months in office), Rose Garden Club lunches for him and his pals, and likely, his lawsuit because the FBI investigated his theft of classified documents, so U. S. Senators want to get in on the action. Meanwhile, our groceries, rent, utilities, healthcare, and other expenses continue to increase. Be good stewards of the nation’s money. It isn’t a slush fund for a president and senators who may have been part of a conspiracy. We will never know for sure of the involvement of everyone, but I can tell you, the optics are terrible.
