Make the Apostle Islands Wisconsin’s first National Park

To: Sen. Johnson, Rep. Pocan, Sen. Baldwin

From: A constituent in Madison, WI

July 29

I am writing to express my support for Representative Tom Tiffany’s Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve Act, which would redesignate the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore as Wisconsin’s first National Park. I believe this legislation would significantly benefit our state by preserving the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and recreational opportunities of the Apostle Islands. The Apostle Islands, with their breathtaking cliffs, sea caves, and deep Ojibwe history, are a treasure worth elevating to National Park status. This redesignation would enhance conservation efforts, boost sustainable tourism, and drive economic growth in northern Wisconsin by attracting more visitors and creating jobs. The bill’s provisions to maintain hunting access on Sand Island as a National Preserve and protect tribal treaty rights reflect a balanced approach that respects local communities and traditions. I urge you to support this bipartisan effort to secure lasting environmental and economic benefits for Wisconsin. Your backing of the Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve Act would demonstrate a commitment to preserving our natural heritage for future generations.
