Oppose Prop 34, retaliatory measure against housing advocacy group

To: Sen. Butler, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Garamendi

From: A verified voter in El Sobrante, CA

October 23

Proposition 34 appears to be a retaliatory measure by the housing industry, specifically the California Apartment Association, against the AIDS Healthcare Foundation for its advocacy of rent control policies. The initiative creates broad criteria that few organizations would meet, but seem tailored to impact AHF. Rather than genuinely addressing patient care issues, Proposition 34 looks like an attempt to financially cripple and silence a prominent political opponent of landlord interests. It sets a concerning precedent of using ballot measures to target specific groups over policy disagreements. This is a carefully crafted yet thinly veiled threat — and threats have no place on our ballots.
