As a Texan, please vote NO on school vouchers. I want a robust public school system for every student, including disabled students. There are few private schools in the entire state that have special ed programs for disabled students. This issue is very important to me as I was a disabled student. I was struck by a boat driven by an intoxicated driver on Labor Day while tubing and swimming in lake weatherford when I was 12 years old. After months in the hospital, I re-entered school as a disabled student. I had to request accommodations to even be included as a normal student. I had a teachers aid who helped me from class to class and supported me throughout the day. Without her, I wouldn’t have been able to participate as every student deserves to participate in school, with their peers. Every student deserves an equal education. Allowing those who can afford private education by offsetting their taxes means that our taxes don’t go towards educating the most vulnerable. This means money taken away to fund public educations like mine. This means money taken from classrooms and teachers and students who can’t afford a fancy education. This means students falling through the cracks. This means less money for those who need it most. I urge you to think of all Texas students instead of the rich, the already powerful. Those who can afford a private education AND to pay taxes so that we can have an educated Texas public and a strong foundation for the future. This is VITAL for our future. Every student deserves to thrive and public schools are already struggling. I’m urging you, begging you, to vote No. For all Texas students. For all Texans. Please do your due diligence and protect those more vulnerable, those in rural communities, disabled students, poor students. Please think of all of us before casting your vote. Texas deserves a bright future and an educated populace. We deserve a robust public school system so every student can thrive. They are our future and I worry about a future that takes from the public school system to give to those already more fortunate. Please. Vote No for ALL Texans.
