The administration's proposed review and potential revocation of protections for public lands is extremely concerning. Places like Chaco Culture National Historical Park, Bears Ears National Monument, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument contain invaluable cultural resources that must be preserved. Gutting the Section 106 process under the National Historic Preservation Act would remove a vital safeguard against destructive development of these sites and landscapes. Prioritizing energy extraction over environmental and cultural preservation ignores the immense value of our shared heritage. Public lands belong to all Americans, not just commercial interests. The planned disruption of funding for critical conservation efforts like abandoned well rehabilitation is also troubling. These places and the stories they hold are irreplaceable. I urge you to stand firm against these attacks on our public lands and cultural patrimony. Please take all possible steps to block policies that would open protected areas to rampant exploitation and development at the expense of our nation's history and open spaces. The outgoing administration worked to safeguard these precious resources - we cannot allow that progress to be undone. Our public lands and cultural sites are a rich legacy that must be stewarded for future generations.
