Oppose Double-Taxation and Infrastructure Cuts in the BUILD America 250 Act

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Doggett

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

May 23

As your constituent from Texas, I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the BUILD America 250 Act unless the unfair federal EV registration fees and clean infrastructure cuts are removed.First, this bill creates a severe double-taxation penalty for electric vehicle owners in our state. Texas already levies a steep $200 annual registration fee on EVs to ensure we pay our fair share for road maintenance. Layering an additional $130 federal fee on top of this forces Texas drivers to pay over $330 a year just to register their vehicles. This penalizes working families who chose to go electric.Second, eliminating the Carbon Reduction Program and gutting billions in federal funding for public charging stations is a major step backward. Texas has a massive, rapidly expanding highway system that desperately needs a robust, reliable charging network to support local commerce and long-distance travel. Cutting this infrastructure leaves drivers stranded and stunts our state's economic growth. Please protect Texas drivers from duplicate fees and infrastructure cuts by opposing the BUILD America 250 Act in its current form.
