The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has saved 25 million lives since its establishment in 2003 by providing lifesaving antiretroviral treatment to people living with HIV/AIDS around the world. However, the proposed rescission package would cut $400 million from this vital program, jeopardizing its ability to continue delivering these essential services. Dedicated health workers in countries like Uganda have continued to show up without pay to ensure their clients receive the medication they need to survive, despite grant cancellations and funding disruptions. We cannot abandon these frontline workers and the millions who depend on PEPFAR for access to HIV treatment. Approving cuts of this magnitude would be a devastating blow with far-reaching consequences. I urge you to reject the rescission package and fully fund PEPFAR to protect the remarkable progress made in the global fight against HIV/AIDS over the past two decades.
