I am writing to you as a concerned citizen who is deeply troubled by your actions and positions on several key issues affecting our country and the world. The situation in Palestine, in particular, has raised significant concerns for me, and I believe that the U.S. government’s involvement in supporting the actions of the Israeli government is contributing to a crisis of unimaginable scale.
First and foremost, I want to address the ongoing violence against the Palestinian people. It’s crucial that we call things what they are. This is genocide, and yet, the U.S. government continues to turn a blind eye to the situation. By sending billions of dollars in military aid to Israel, you are complicit in this horrific violation of human rights. I work hard for my money, and I have no problem paying taxes for things like infrastructure, HEALTHCARE or education—but I will not stand by while my tax dollars are used to fund war and oppression abroad.
Additionally, I am deeply concerned by the erosion of our First Amendment rights here at home. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to protest Israel’s actions without being labeled anti-Semitic, and in many cases, protesters are being silenced or punished for voicing their opposition. This is a direct attack on our right to free speech and the right to assemble, both of which are foundational to our democracy. The hypocrisy of allowing protests against America but not against the actions of a foreign state is glaring and unacceptable.
I urge you to take immediate action on these critical issues: stop sending aid to Israel, support the rights of Palestinians, and protect our First Amendment rights.
