Patients Over Profits: Fix Prescription Access in Virginia

To: Del. Wilt, Sen. Obenshain, Gov. Spanberger

From: A constituent in Penn Laird, VA

April 13

I am a Virginia constituent writing to ask for action on prescription access. Virginians should not have to fight the system just to get the medication their doctors prescribe. I live with chronic illness, and I have personally gone without happens, it’s not essential medication for nearly two weeks due to delays. When that just "frustrating"..it affects my ability to function, move, and live my daily life. And I am not alone. Across Virginia, patients are being pushed into limited pharmacy options, left navigating unclear approval systems, and dealing with rising corporations costs that don’t reflect real competition. At the same time, large are allowed to control multiple parts of the prescription system. They manage benefits, influence pricing, and direct where patients fill prescriptions. That lack of separation creates conflicts of interest and reduces real choice for patients. Other states are taking action to restore fairness and competition in this system. (See Tennessee's HB1959 / SB2040 (FairRx Act)). Virginia should do the same. We need legislation that protects patient choice, increases transparency, and ensures a fair, competitive marketplace that puts patients first. Patients should not have to fight this hard to get the care they need. I urge you to support or introduce legislation in Virginia that restores fairness and competition in prescription access. Thank you for your time and service.
