I’m writing as a resident of NY to ask you to put the NY HEAT Act in your upcoming budget. NY HEAT reforms public service law to halt costly subsidies for expanding the gas system allowing utilities to invest in modern, efficient clean heating and cooling systems. NY HEAT would limit utility bills to 6% of household income saving the 1.4 million energy-burdened households an average of $136/month on their utility bills. NY HEAT requires utilities to maintain the safety and reliability of energy services and contains important protections for workers. This is common-sense legislation that aligns with the CLCPA and the recommendations of your administration’s Climate Action Council Scoping Plan. We can’t afford to delay any longer—New Yorkers deserve affordable, healthy, and clean energy solutions.
