I’m reaching out because I’m deeply concerned about Elon Musk’s involvement in the Executive Office of the President and whether he’s following federal conflict of interest and ethics rules. Since January 20, 2025, he’s had access to sensitive government information while still holding significant financial stakes in multiple private companies—many of which receive billions in federal contracts. According to reports, Musk is classified as a “special government employee,” meaning he’s supposed to follow strict ethics and conflict of interest laws, including the criminal statute (18 U.S.C. § 208) that prevents government employees from working on matters where they have a financial stake. But with his vast business empire—including Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, xAI, X Corp., and Neuralink—there’s a real concern that he could be using his government role to benefit his companies or avoid oversight. Just last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed that Musk would recuse himself from conflicts of interest. But so far, there’s no clear information on whether he’s actually following through, whether he disclosed his financial interests, or if the White House gave him a waiver to bypass these laws. That’s why I’m asking you to push for transparency and get answers to the following: 1 Has Musk filed a financial disclosure report as required by law? 2 Has he been involved in any government decisions where he has a financial interest? 3 Did the White House consult the Office of Government Ethics before appointing him? 4 Did he receive a waiver to exempt him from conflict-of-interest laws? If so, when, and under what authority? 5 Has he received any other ethics waivers? Beyond the financial conflicts, there are also serious concerns about Musk’s foreign ties and his role in the “Department of Government Efficiency.” These issues need urgent Senate oversight to ensure transparency and prevent any abuse of power. I hope you’ll take action to demand clear answers from the White House by February 13, 2025. The public deserves to know if one of the world’s wealthiest individuals is playing by the rules while influencing our government. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
