A majority of Missouri voters recently approved the right to abortion access up until viability, rejecting an outright ban. This proposed constitutional amendment ignores the will of the people by reinstating severe restrictions and requiring survivors of rape or incest to report the crime to police within a short timeframe to access abortion care. Numerous studies show that most sexual assaults go unreported due to legitimate fears and trauma. Imposing this barrier would cruelly deny many survivors their rights and access to essential health care. As elected officials, you have a duty to respect the choice Missourians made at the ballot box. I urge you to abandon this amendment that disregards our voice and values. Defend the reproductive freedom enshrined in our state constitution.
