An Open Letter

To: Sen. Thune, Sen. Rounds, Rep. Johnson

From: A constituent in Sioux Falls, SD

January 20

As a South Dakotan, I’m asking you to sign the extension that will keep health care costs down for the people you represent. Our state has always been built on neighbors helping neighbors, on stepping up for one another regardless of political party or personal ideology. That’s who we are. That’s what we teach our children. And that’s what we expect from our leaders. Right now, your refusal to act is putting unnecessary strain on families, seniors, and working people who are already doing everything they can to stay afloat. Health care isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a basic necessity, and your inaction sends a message that the wellbeing of South Dakotans is secondary to political gamesmanship. That is unacceptable. We deserve leadership that reflects the values of this state—responsibility, compassion, and common sense. Signing this extension is not only the practical choice, it is the moral one. It protects families from skyrocketing costs. It keeps our communities stable. It honors the principle that we take care of each other, even when we disagree. Failing to sign it does the opposite. It harms the very people you were elected to serve. It disregards the trust South Dakotans placed in you. And it undermines the shared belief that we look out for one another, especially in times of need. I urge you to reconsider your position and do what is right for the people of South Dakota. Put aside the politics. Put aside the posturing. Stand with the families who depend on you. Sign the extension and show that you value the health, stability, and future of this state. South Dakotans deserve nothing less.
