Release Mom from ICE whose son died while she was detained

To: Pres. Trump, Rep. Mfume, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Baltimore, MD

January 9

I am writing to urgently request your assistance in securing the immediate release of Arlit Maria Martinez Carrada (A221489257) from ICE custody so she may grieve the death of her son with her family and return to Mexico together. Ms. Martinez Carrada has lived in the United States for over 20 years, has no criminal record, and is the mother of four. She was detained by ICE while on her way to work in Salisbury, Maryland. During her detention, her son, who has a treatable cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy, became critically ill and died. ICE denied her release to be with her dying child and subsequently transferred her out of state before funeral arrangements could be made. This family has chosen voluntary departure so they can be together in their time of grief. At minimum, this mother should be released so her family can mourn and return home together. I respectfully urge you to intervene and support her immediate release. Thank you.
