Reject Corrupt Provision Allowing Senators to Sue for Millions

To: Rep. Fedorchak, Sen. Cramer, Sen. Hoeven

From: A constituent in Horace, ND

November 14

I am writing to express my deep concern over the controversial provision in the recent Senate government shutdown bill that could allow Republican senators to receive million-dollar payouts. This clause, retroactively effective from 2022, permits senators to sue the U.S. government for at least $1 million each if federal investigators obtained their phone or digital records during Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. This provision is a blatant attempt to steal taxpayer money and must be immediately rejected. Any politician expressing interest in using this provision must be placed under increased scrutiny. Both Democrats and Republicans have rightfully criticized this provision as corrupt and self-serving. It sets a dangerous precedent by potentially rewarding those under investigation for illegal activities with substantial financial compensation. This not only undermines the integrity of our legislative process but also erodes public trust in our elected officials. The American people deserve transparency and accountability from their elected representatives. Allowing this provision to stand would be a grave disservice to your constituents and the principles of good governance. Please take immediate action to ensure this clause is removed and that similar attempts in the future are prevented. Our democracy depends on your commitment to upholding the public interest over personal gain.
