Uphold Congress' War Powers Block Hostilities Against Iran.

June 22

The rapid escalation of military conflict between Israel and Iran is alarming, with both sides launching strikes against nuclear and military sites. While the G7 nations have urged de-escalation, President Trump's inflammatory rhetoric and actions like shifting military assets to the region are dangerously raising tensions. This situation bears troubling parallels to the buildup to the 2003 Iraq War - questionable justifications, claims about weapons of mass destruction, and aspirations for regime change in Iran. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over matters of war and peace. Support the bipartisan war powers resolutions (S.J.Res. 59 in the Senate and H.Con.Res. 38 in the House) to prevent further U.S. military involvement in this conflict without explicit congressional approval. As Senator Tim Kaine stated, "The American people have no interest in sending service members to fight another forever war in the Middle East." Unilateral executive action has now entangled the U.S. in an unnecessary, costly, and destabilizing potential new war due to the bombing in Iran on June 21st. Uphold Congress' war powers responsibilities and block any additional unauthorized hostilities against Iran.
