Support S Res 224, End Genocide in Gaza

Support S.Res.224: End the Gaza Blockade – Stop Famine, Confront Genocide This resolution demands immediate action to end the Israeli government’s blockade of Gaza, which is driving an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and a looming, preventable famine. Since March 2, 2025, Israeli authorities have blocked the entry of food, medicine, infant formula, fuel, and other essential supplies into Gaza. This deliberate obstruction of aid has created conditions where 2.2 million people face severe hunger. According to the United Nations, over 10,000 children are now suffering from acute malnutrition — a clear signal that famine is imminent. All World Food Program-supported bakeries in Gaza have shut down due to the lack of wheat flour and fuel. Emergency food rations have been exhausted. The World Food Program has warned that people are already starving, and more will die unless aid is delivered now. Gaza’s healthcare system is collapsing under the strain of bombardment, blockade, and scarcity. This is not a natural disaster. It is a man-made crisis. It is a policy choice by the Israeli government to use starvation as a weapon of war. This amounts to genocide under international law — specifically, the deliberate infliction of conditions of life calculated to destroy a population in whole or in part. The continuation of these actions represents a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the Genocide Convention. The United States government, through its military aid, diplomatic cover, and repeated vetoes at the UN, has been complicit in enabling this atrocity. This complicity must end. The U.S. must not remain silent while children starve under blockade. While leaders in France, Canada, Spain, and Ireland have taken steps to condemn these actions and call for accountability, the United States has lagged behind — failing not only its obligations under international law but also the basic moral principles it claims to uphold. We call on the U.S. government to urgently demand an immediate end to the blockade, ensure the full and unfettered entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and condition all military assistance to Israel on compliance with international law. Anything less is a betrayal of our values and a green light for further atrocities. The time for half-measures and empty statements is over. Every day of delay costs more lives. We must act now — to end the blockade, to stop the famine, and to prevent a genocide in real time.
