An Open Letter

To: Rep. Chan, Sen. Keenan, Gov. Healey

From: A constituent in Quincy, MA

April 7

This legislation imposes overly burdensome requirements for voter registration that risk disenfranchising eligible citizens, particularly minority and low-income communities. Requiring documentary proof of citizenship like passports or birth certificates creates unnecessary barriers to the fundamental right to vote. Many Americans lack these forms of ID through no fault of their own. The proposed measures exceed what is needed to ensure electoral integrity and stand to suppress voter participation. I urge rejection of this bill in favor of policies that protect and expand access to the ballot for all eligible voters.
