Yesterday marked the expiration of New START, the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the U.S. and Russia. Without a successor treaty, there will be no legally binding caps on the world’s two largest nuclear arsenals for the first time in more than 50 years - increasing the risk of a costly, dangerous nuclear arms race. And the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists changed the Doomsday Clock to 85 seconds to midnight - closer to catastrophe than ever before due to the risks of nuclear war, climate change, the misuse of biotechnology and the potential threat of AI. It is a moral imperative to eliminate nuclear weapons. I call on you to support key legislation that protects nuclear arms control.
