Defend constitutional democracy, restore transparency and accountability
To: Rep. Self, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Wylie, TX
August 6
The actions described raise significant concerns about the erosion of constitutional checks and balances in our democracy. By deleting key sections of the U.S. Constitution from government websites, including provisions that define Congressional authority and civil liberties, there appears to be a concerted effort to obscure and diminish the role of co-equal branches of government. Removing references to the Emoluments Clause, which prohibits self-enrichment by public officials through foreign gifts, is particularly alarming given reports of an unauthorized private jet received from Qatar. Stripping away public access to information on LGBTQ+ rights and resources in Spanish is an unacceptable attack on equal rights and access. These deletions appear to be part of a broader agenda to consolidate power in the executive branch at the expense of democratic principles. We must take action to protect the integrity of our constitutional system of government and the rights of all citizens. Restoring full transparency, affirming Congress's constitutional role, and vigorously upholding anti-corruption safeguards are essential to preserving our democracy.
