An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hawley, Rep. Graves, Sen. Schmitt

From: A constituent in Plattsburg, MO

April 1

Another Judge has just informed YOU what YOUR job is. US District Court Judge Leon wrote, regarding this ‘ballroom’: “Unless and until Congress blesses this project through statutory authorization, construction has to stop! But here is the good news. It is not too late for Congress to authorize the continued construction of the ballroom project. The President may at any time go to Congress to obtain express authority to construct a ballroom and to do so with private funds. Indeed, Congress may even choose to appropriate funds for the ballroom, or at least decide that some other funding scheme is acceptable. Either way, Congress will thereby retain its authority over the nation’s property and its oversight over the Government’s spending.” Well – don’t you feel silly having a federal judge needing to remind you through his court ruling that Congress has the power of the purse. In case you need a reminder, the Antideficiency Act prohibits government employees from accepting private funds for government operations. Wow – figure out your job and do it. We – the voting public – are getting tired of reminding you that you have a job!
