I am writing to express my strong opposition to Senate Bill 2, which proposes harmful changes to the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). This bill threatens the health, economic stability, and very survival of thousands of Hoosiers, including myself and my nearly 80-year-old mother, who both rely on HIP for essential healthcare. I have been unable to work due to ongoing treatment for a traumatic brain injury, an autoimmune disease, a thyroid disorder, and a possible thyroid cancer diagnosis. My mother, at her age, requires care and support. If this bill passes, I don’t know how we will afford necessary treatments, medications, and doctor visits. This is not just policy—it’s life or death for people like us. Capping HIP enrollment at 500,000 members and adding unnecessary red tape, including employment mandates, will force vulnerable Hoosiers out of the program. Healthcare should not be on the chopping block. If cost-cutting is needed, find other solutions—perhaps by reconsidering tax breaks for the wealthy instead of making low-income residents beg for the care they need to survive. I am deeply frustrated that despite widespread public support for accessible healthcare, lawmakers continue to ignore the needs of working-class and disabled residents while prioritizing corporate interests and tax cuts for the rich. The people of Indiana deserve representatives who fight for them—not ones who make their lives harder. I urge you to reject Senate Bill 2 and any efforts to limit healthcare access for Hoosiers. Instead, focus on policies that uplift working families, the elderly, and those with disabilities rather than punishing them for circumstances beyond their control. I would appreciate a response outlining your stance on this issue. Hoosiers are watching, and we will remember who fought for us and who did not.
