Human rights

Dear President Biden,
As a grateful American who appreciates your lifetime of service, and as a longtime member of Amnesty International, I am writing to urge you to take these 5 critical human rights actions before you leave office — and before your human rights legacy is sealed:
- Change course on Gaza: Stop all U.S. arms transfers to the government of Israel to protect civilians, ensure a ceasefire, and free all hostages
- Work towards your promise to end the federal death penalty: Start with commuting the death sentences of the 44 people on federal and military death row
- Rectify a long-standing case of injustice: free Indigenous elder and activist Leonard Peltier
- Transfer the 16 people cleared for release out of Guantanamo to countries where their human rights will be respected
- Take a human-rights first approach at the border: Prioritize, protect and fulfill the right to seek asylum
As you know, these actions can be done without Congress – we just need your commitment and the stroke of a pen. Please act before it is too late.
