I write in rage and grief at the harm being done to our collective future by this administration, on so many levels—but in this case, in its destruction of environmental protections that have been in place for over 50 years. I refer to the recent announced change to the Environmental Protection Agency's policy on what constitutes "harm," which will no longer include habitat loss—the number one trigger for endangered species status. (See The Conversation's explainer on this: https://theconversation.com/how-redefining-one-word-strips-the-endangered-species-acts-ability-to-protect-vital-habitat-287348)
Please do everything in your power to call attention to the vital work of the EPA, our need to preserve wild habitats now more than ever, and the absolute emergency that we are in due to climate change. We cannot sell our future so that absurdly wealthy oil companies can get wealthier.
