We are told that truth is a universal reality. Yet, we stand today, caught in an incongruity where truth is manipulated and distorted to serve a select few. It is an undeniable truth that beneath the pretense of a popular narrative lies a virulent and nearly inaudible, yet intensive, cry for a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. The ongoing violence has brought immeasurable suffering to innocent civilians: men, women, and most painfully, children who have barely seen the light of life are being chastised in the most inhumane manner. This is not a call from a distant observer, but a plea from a fellow human swathed in shock and grief, bearing witness to the unspeakable torment in the eyes of those victimized by this violence.
Crimes against humanity – we have heard this term over and over again, always charged with a sense of urgency, but lately it seems like it’s been reduced to just a phrase. A hollow, ineffectual protest that barely grazes the surface of the ongoing transgressions in Israel and, more importantly, in Palestine. The continued U.S funding of Israel's actions against Palestinian civilians is highly disconcerting. Our tax dollars, which should be utilized for our collective progress and prosperity, are instead being funneled into an activity that is consistently causing pain and suffering to an entire demographic of innocent civilians.
War is never, and should never, be the answer. It brings nothing but pain and anguish. The bombing of schools, hospitals, and residential areas; the lives lost, dreams shattered, and futures destroyed – this is the real cost of the U.S sending arms. This plea is simple, demanding only peace, justice, and humanity. The suspension of U.S funding, the immediate cessation of arms shipments to Israel, is not only an act of mercy but also a necessary step towards reestablishing a world order where peace, justice, and human rights are celebrated, not suffocated. This is the call of the hour. The time to act is now.
