Oppose H.R.86 - NOSHA Act

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. Kiley, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Roseville, CA

February 3

I am writing as your constituent to express my strongest opposition to H.R. 86, the "Nullify Occupational Safety and Health Administration Act." This dangerously misguided legislation, which proposes to completely abolish OSHA, would eliminate five decades of crucial workplace safety protections that have saved countless American lives. The implications of this bill are staggering. OSHA's elimination would immediately remove fundamental safeguards that protect workers from deadly falls, hazardous chemicals, dangerous machinery, and countless other workplace hazards. This would effectively turn back the clock to an era when preventable workplace deaths and injuries were commonplace and employers had no federal accountability for maintaining safe working conditions. OSHA's impact on American worker safety has been transformative: - Workplace fatalities have dropped by approximately two-thirds since OSHA's creation - Countless safety standards have been implemented that protect workers across all industries - Workers have gained the right to report unsafe conditions without fear of retaliation - Businesses have clear, consistent safety guidelines that create a level playing field The elimination of OSHA would create a dangerous vacuum in workplace safety oversight. Without federal standards and enforcement: - Each state would need to create its own workplace safety system, leading to a patchwork of inconsistent regulations - Workers would lose their primary advocate for safe working conditions - Businesses operating across state lines would face conflicting safety requirements - Workplace accident investigations would lack federal oversight and coordination This bill offers no alternative system to protect American workers. It simply proposes to eliminate the entire framework of workplace safety that has protected American workers for over 50 years. This is not reform or improvement - it is a reckless dismantling of essential protections that keep American workers alive and safe. As your constituent, I strongly urge you to oppose H.R. 86 and speak out against any similar attempts to weaken workplace safety protections. The lives and well-being of American workers depend on maintaining and strengthening these crucial safeguards, not eliminating them. Please respond with your position on this critical issue. Your constituents deserve to know where you stand on protecting worker safety.
