I am writing again to voice my concern about this Republican administration’s refusal to follow the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling regarding the unlawful, unconstitutional jailing of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador. Mr. Abrego Garcia is guilty of no crimes in either the United States or El Salvador. He was taken off the street, not charged with a crime, then whisked overseas without a chance to plead his case to an immigration judge. That is not an arrest. It is an abduction. It is illegal. This Republican administration has publicly refused to abide by the court’s 9-0 ruling to return Mr. Abrego Garcia as expeditiously as possible. That is a direct violation of President Trump’s oath to defend the Constitution. If the President can defy the Supreme Court with impunity, our democracy is in grave danger. Further, if the legislative branch of our federal government cannot, or will not, hold the President accountable, our great experiment in democracy is dead, as the checks and balances it is based on no longer exist. If this is the case, the once-great Republican party is dead as well—it has been replaced by the anti-democracy, big-government MAGA party. My wife and I strongly urge you be true to YOUR oath to defend the Constitution. Please save your party, our democracy and our nation by demanding this administration repatriate Mr. Abrego Garcia as quickly as possible, and insist it abide by the rule of law set out in the Constitution.
