Restore USAID

To: Rep. Fitzgerald, Sen. Baldwin, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Waukesha, WI

February 12

I am a mother, teacher, and proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I am extremely concerned about the impact both in the world and here at home in shutting down USAID. Being part of the world means being involved, helping where there is need, and weaving bonds with our international community. It generates goodwill towards the United States and helps to stabilize regions that might otherwise create further chaos or trouble for world nations. I am also concerned about the impact here at home. Here in Wisconsin, there are quite a lot of farmers who grow food that goes to USAID projects. They are depending on that connection for the sustainability of their farms and selling of their crops. Also, there are many jobs at Wisconsin universities and other organizations that help to research and organize these aid efforts. There are many efforts happening right now that, on the surface, are worded as money-saving budget cuts. However, losing these aid programs will cost us far more in the long-term and only look good for short-term gains. Please continue to speak up for those programs like USAID that are long-term, that benefit our world relationships as well as people here at home. Thank you so much for the time and service you give every day.
