Support HR 8470, the Surveillance Accountability Act
To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff
From: A constituent in Twentynine Palms, CA
April 29
I am writing as your constituent to urge your support for H.R. 8470, the Surveillance Accountability Act.
The importance of this legislation transcends partisan divides. Right now, the government can buy and search Americans’ private data—including location, financial records, and even information about our beliefs—without a warrant, judge, or oversight. This bill closes that loophole, and holds those who violate our Fourth Amendment rights accountable.
I’m particularly concerned about the privately owned Flock surveillance cameras being installed all over the country, including in my city of 29 Palms. A group local citizens started a campaign to get rid of them, and this bill would go even further, requiring a judicial warrant for surveillance. https://deflock29.org.
