Oppose DoD Funding

To: Sen. Grassley, Rep. Feenstra, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Sioux City, IA

April 3

I am writing to express frustration with the lack of financial oversight at the Department of Defense. I demand that you oppose any further defense funding authorizations or increases until the Pentagon successfully passes a full, independent financial audit. The American taxpayer is currently being asked to fund the President’s staggering $1.5 trillion budget proposal while the military remains the only federal agency unable to account for its spending. It is equally unacceptable that the conflict in Iran has surpassed $200 billion in congressional unauthorized spending, while reporters documented wasted resources on lavish meals, high-end furniture, and other unnecessary costs. This systemic waste, fraud, and abuse must end. Rewarding a consistent failure to meet basic accounting standards with expanded budgets is a breach of fiscal responsibility - the very thing conservatives care about most. I urge you to condition all future military appropriations on a clean audit and to implement strict penalties for financial negligence. We cannot continue to subsidize a black hole for our national wealth while hardworking citizens struggle with the rising costs of living. I look forward to hearing how you intend to hold the DoD accountable to government standards.
