*A message for Senator Johnson on the direction of our nation* Dear Senator Johnson, There are so many things I can list to say no to. The SAVE Act. DOGE and their merciless and thoughtless purging of the people we need to keep the USA afloat. Medicare and Medicaid. White supremacy. I know for a fact that last one is not what my grandparents fought for in World War II. All over Wisconsin, people from both sides of the aisle recognize that we are hurting our people and absolutely crippling our standing in the world. I realize for a small percentage of the extremely wealthy that going back to feudalism, Sparta, and leper colonies is some sort of fever dream. They can escape to their fortresses and leave the less fortunate and vulnerable to die. At the end of the day, can’t you just start saying NO to all of this? I think it’s a small ask - if you shut out all the noise and think of the rest of us and our future. Do you remember when we were young and the bicentennial was the biggest deal ever? We were so proud. I was in grade school and I remember dressing up like Betsy Ross. There were so many reasons to be grateful and happy. The nation we’re in now is unrecognizable to me except for one aspect. I still believe most people are kind and want to do good. Next year we will be celebrating 250 years as a nation. Or will we? As always, the answer comes down to courage. I have to believe a fair number of Republican senators are privately extremely dismayed at what is happening. I would love to see you and others do the right thing. Instead of seeing compromise, we feel terrorized. Thank you. cc: Senator Tammy Baldwin and Congressman Mark Pocan
