Congress holds the power of the purse. It has an obligation to manage tax payer funds responsibly for the health and welfare of citizens. President Trump is wasting taxpayer money on unnecessary lavish expenses. You have an obligation to stop him. Do your job. Between January 21 and March 31, at a time when Trump is defunding cancer research and firing key federal employees in the name of so called efficiency, Trump has spent almost $30 million dollars of taxpayers funds on weekend golf trips to his Florida property. This is outrageous waste. Many Americans, unlike our European counterparts, have no paid vacation time. We also cannot afford to travel with the cost of bills and groceries are skyrocketing due to the Trump recession. And this man spent $30 million dollars on golf in 2 months! He has also spent almost $2 million dollars on renovations. My wages are stagnant and I cannot afford to replace my kitchen cabinets but Trump is renovating the White House. It does not stop there. Instead of waiting to buy an American made plane to replace Air Force One, Trump has obtained a $400 million dollar 747 that belonged to the Qatari government. As people worry about paying rent and falling into student loan default, as small businesses buckle under the Trump tariffs, this man has a gold plated plane with a lavish staircase. $400 million dollars!!!! What in the world is wrong with him? University grants are defunded and crucial soft power foreign aid organizations are killed while Trump buys a plane that would please the most ruthless dictator. And to top it off, as we slide into job losses and higher unemployment, as Congress threatens Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security, Trump plans a lavish unnecessary military parade for his birthday. The sticker price is estimated to be at least $25 million dollars with many cost estimates topping $45 million dollars. And today I read Trump is proposing to build a $100 million dollar ballroom at the White House. On what planet is this OK? The American people fo not need a White House ballroom. We need free health care and affordable college! Trump is not behaving in a fiscally responsible way. He must be reigned in. And Congress must do it. This is wasteful irresponsible unacceptable. The American Revolution and the French Revolution arose in situations where ordinary people faced unreasonable economic pressure due to wasteful lavish living by those at the top of the economic ladder. Trump says we should eat cake while he gorges and we starve. We are in a precarious moment. Please act for the American people.
