Stop the Use of Authoritarian Propaganda by Federal Agencies

To: Rep. Fitzgerald, Sen. Baldwin, Sen. Johnson

From: A verified voter in Pewaukee, WI

January 14

I am writing to express my alarm over recent reporting that the Trump administration has adopted rhetoric closely resembling propaganda used by Nazi Germany. According to The Daily Beast, official messaging from federal agencies has included slogans such as “America is for Americans” and “One Homeland. One People. One Heritage,” language that historians and civil rights advocates note directly echoes fascist-era propaganda. Regardless of intent, this rhetoric is deeply irresponsible. Language used by the federal government matters. When it mirrors exclusionary, authoritarian movements from history’s darkest chapters, it undermines democratic norms, fuels division, and risks legitimizing extremist ideologies. This is not about partisan disagreement—it is about safeguarding the moral credibility of our institutions. Federal agencies should not traffic in slogans with such dangerous historical associations, especially amid heightened tensions around immigration enforcement and the use of state violence. I urge you to demand transparency, accountability, and corrective action to ensure government messaging reflects democratic values, not authoritarian ones.
