Ban Bioweapons Before They Destroy Humanity
Dear Servant of God’s Children: I write with grave urgency regarding the existential peril posed by biological weapons facilities. Recent reports from Siberia’s Irkutsk region demonstrate how quickly a containment breach can threaten the world.
According to regional health reporting and news outlets including The Moscow Times and The BMJ, a 28-year-old female technician at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute died of severe pulmonary infection after a vial containing the plague bacterium (Yersinia pestis) broke. Following her hospitalization in Shelekhov, Russian authorities placed four medical facilities under quarantine and isolated nearly 200 people under strict medical observation.
As investigative journalist Scott Carney highlighted, these facilities historically housed Cold War-era biological weapons programs engineered to create apocalyptic "dead hand" strikes capable of eradicating substantial portions of the earth's population. Pathogens modified for weaponization—designed with delayed incubation periods to maximize social transmission before lethality sets in—are diabolical instruments of slaughter. Whether this specific tragedy involved an engineered agent or a wild strain, the terrifying reality remains: a single breach can rapidly unravel global biosafety.
God created humanity to live in abundant life, not to craft tools of mass annihilation that reduce creation to collateral damage. Every human life possesses sacred dignity, and unleashing engineered contagion violates our fundamental duty to protect the vulnerable.
I urge you to call for immediate precautionary measures, including evaluating travel restrictions and flight halts from the impacted Siberian corridor. More importantly, treat this disaster as a universal warning sign: Congress must lead the international community to demand the total, verified destruction of all biological weapons stockpiles worldwide. None of these weapons should exist.
