Condemn violations in Gaza, suspend Israel military aid

To: V.P. Harris

From: A constituent in Renfrew, PA

August 20

The systematic targeting and excessive use of force against Palestinian civilians in Gaza by Israeli military forces is deeply concerning and amounts to grave violations of international humanitarian law. Hundreds of children have been killed, critical infrastructure like hospitals and schools have been decimated, and a staggering portion of Gaza's population has been forcibly displaced from their homes. This indiscriminate violence and devastation cannot be justified or rationalized under any circumstances. While Israel has a right to self-defense, its military actions must comply with the core principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution under international law. The mass civilian casualties and wanton destruction in Gaza strongly indicate Israel is failing to uphold these basic legal obligations. Such disproportionate military force against a densely populated civilian area is unacceptable and only serves to perpetuate the cycle of violence. As a member of the international community, we have a moral and legal duty to condemn these horrific violations and take concrete steps to protect civilians and hold perpetrators accountable. Continuing to provide military aid and funding that enables these violations would be tantamount to being complicit. I urge you to immediately suspend all military assistance to Israel until there are credible assurances and mechanisms in place to ensure compliance with international law and prevent further harm to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
